The Boat Party is this Wednesday, Feb.8th, on the ship Eastern Comfort with a fire in the fireplace and mixing cultures and languages and live music on the Spree. The weekly language/international party brings together people of all ages from everywhere and is known for its friendly ambience where it's easy to meet and talk with people in a variety of languages--I help with arranging language partners. Come early for that. The party starts at 7pm around my 5-star hummus. The Entry is one euro until 8:30pm, after that two euros (the extra euro to pay the band). ERASMUS students (with valid ID) get in free.
SPECIAL GUEST this week is alternative practitioner Brigitte Boller (www.inkincon.de), back from 5 years work in Asia. She'll be onboard from 7 to 10pm to discuss with expatriates their needs and wishes in health care, as well as to advise and talk from her experiences with various cultures, including the achievement potential of living in a wholistic way.
This week's concert is by IRISH musician Daniel O Connor, who plays Folk Rock Pop ranging from Mumford and Sons to Bob Marley. (Myspace.com/danieloconnormusic) His concert will begin around 10pm.
Last week despite the freezing cold the lounge was full, creating that special atmosphere and steaming up the windows. A good cure for the winter blues. It was a good night to speak first Spanish and Italian, then French, English and German, Dutch, Turkish, Japanese, Thai, Chinese, Polish, Korean, Hindi, Hebrew, Czech, Russian and Farsi in the mingling. Come a little earlier for language partners.

| Creative Writing Course
A new course is forming for persons interested in writing short or long fiction, memoirs, narrative non-fiction or screenplays. The course takes a workshop format modeled after those in US universities. Each meeting two students' works-in-progress are discussed as we try to make them better and learn and be inspired in the process. The atmosphere is casual, friendly, supportive and serious. The discussion aims for a high level and to be useful for writers in all stages of development. Except for special allowances, we'll work in English. The cost for the course is around 10€ per meeting, depending on the number of students. Persons are invited to sample the course before joining (the cost to sit in is 10 euros). We meet Tuesday evenings, 7pm, in a classroom in the IFS Language School on Potsdamerstr. The next meeting of the new course will be Feb. 7th. | Conversation Group in English: Wine Tasting Night

A new conversation group is forming in January in Prenzlauer Berg for people to refresh their English amid an ongoing discussion of culture as medium. We compare differences in the languages, talk about experiences in various cultures and sometimes achieve humor--all of this with a little wine.
We'll meet every second Monday in my flat from 7-9pm. The group is medium-to-advanced in level and usually 4 to 8 persons. The cost is 10 Euro per meeting and drop-ins are welcome. If you'd like to take part in the Wine Tasting Night please contact me for details.

| Sony Center World Languages Swing Party

Look for the next Sony Center World Languages Swing Party near the end of February at the Sony Center Cinestar bar (Potsdamer Platz) with a dance and swing concert: SPAGHETTI SWING & SAMBA is an Italian duo featuring "old Swing Jazz songs in gypsy Manouche style and Brazilian sambas" and lounge classics to get people dancing. Wear your dancing shoes. All are welcome. Over 170 persons were at the January party, with dancing. The open party is known for bringing together people of all ages from everywhere on the globe in an atmosphere of live music and many languages. Language partners arranged through the evening. FU/ HU international club members and ERASMUS students (with valid ID) get in free. Enjoy the concert and mix in the international crowd. The party starts at 20:00--the concert is from 9 to 11:30pm or so. The admission is just 3€ and includes a welcome drink.
